Proof of Work
Proof of Work (PoW) is a consensus mechanism used in blockchain networks, most notably in Bitcoin. It requires network participants, known as miners, to solve complex mathematical puzzles to validate and add new blocks to the blockchain. Miners compete to find a nonce (a random number) that, when combined with the block's data, produces a hash value with specific characteristics. This computational effort demonstrates that work has been performed, and the block is considered valid. PoW provides security to the network, as the computational power required makes it difficult for a single entity to control the majority of the network's mining power.
